Cybernetic Interface System
(CIS)
Quick-Start Sheet
for MIDI-controlled
You must be using BioGraph Infinity.
You should have 2 BeyondVR CDs. One is labeled “CIS Setup”. The other is labeled “CIS Suites”.
You must have a BeyondVR security dongle. A SINGLE dongle is used for ALL of the CIS Suites installed. You DO NOT buy one for each product.
ALMOST READY TO START..
CIS Setup CD
The setup CD prepares the computer so that it is ready for the CIS Suites to
be installed.
The setup CD installs the dongle driver, some
utilities, Cortona (a VRML viewer by ParallelGraphics™), and a number of other
files. Running CIS setup is done only once. The setup CD also contains the
manual and other support documentation, Adobe™ Acrobat (needed to read our
documentation), and some additional software.
CIS Suites CD
The suites CD contains all of the currently available suites of feedback
interfaces for use with BioGraph. Each suite has multiple
feedback interfaces, as well as permutations of each feedback interface, so
that they can be used with training protocols requiring different numbers of
training variables. Other suites will be released, and updates adding
additional feedback interfaces to existing suites will be released regularly.
START INSTALLATION.
Put the CIS Setup CD in the
computer.
Double-click on the CIS Setup link. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Put the CIS Suites CD in the
computer.
To install a CIS Suite (there’s more than one on the suites CD) click on the
icon for that suite. Example: click on the icon labeled “StarLight” to install
the StarLight suite of feedback interfaces.
Adobe Acrobat is needed to read our documentation. If you don’t already have Adobe Acrobat installed, now is a convenient time to install it. It’s on the CIS Setup CD. Click the Adobe Acrobat icon to install Adobe Acrobat (if needed).
REMOVE THE INSTALLATION CD (or any other non-music CD).
The computer needs to be properly set so the CIS can receive the MIDI notes played by the biofeedback software you are using. Go to the Windows Control Panel, select “Sounds and Audio Devices”, pick the “Audio” tab, and select “CIS Internal MIDI Port”" as the default playback device for MIDI. The CIS Suites will now be able to receive the MIDI data played by software using that port and use it to drive the 3D feedback interfaces. MIDI sounds will not be played through the speakers by the CIS Internal MIDI Port. Switch the default MIDI device to a device other than the CIS Internal MIDI Port when you need to be able to hear MIDI sounds.
TRAINING
Launch the CIS (double-click on the icon on the desktop
labeled “CIS (MIDI)”).
A menu listing the CIS Suites that are installed will be displayed.
Select a trainee from the CIS Suites Menu.
Select the number of feedback streams to use from the CIS Suites Menu.
Select and start a CIS Suite and/or feedback interface to use for training from the CIS Suite menu. The menu dynamically changes so that you can only make choices that make sense in the current context of the defined training variables.
The CIS Suite will start and you will see a panel used to control some things related to training periods (CIS Control Panel). Press the “Start Training” button to begin the training.
After running CISsetup, there will be a “Cybernetic Interface System” folder on the Programs bar. The CIS folder contains links to some important utilities and documentation.
The link to the CIS manual is:
Start |
Programs | Cybernetic Interface System | MIDI | CIS Manual.
It’s also on the CIS Setup CD.
PLEASE REVIEW THE “HELPFUL TIPS” SECTION IN THE CIS MANUAL.
